Lebanon’s official currency is the Lebanese Pound (LBP), though many businesses, especially in Beirut, accept US Dollars (USD). We recommend that you bring your cash in USD as it is the main currency used for transactions.
Currency Exchange
There are many currency exchange offices in Lebanon, especially at the airport, major hotels, and in central areas like Beirut. Exchange rates can fluctuate, so it’s always a good idea to check the rate before exchanging large amounts.
ATMs & Cards
ATMs are available throughout Lebanon, and they usually dispense both Lebanese Pounds and US Dollars. Most international credit and debit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are widely accepted in restaurants, hotels, and stores in major cities. However, it’s advised to have cash USD at hand for your day to day transactions.
Tipping
In Lebanon, tipping is customary and expected in many service situations. For restaurants, a 10-15% tip is standard if a service charge is not included. Taxi drivers, bellhops, and hotel staff also typically expect small tips.
